POLICY SOLUTIONS FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN, YOUTH & FAMILIES

A diverse group of grantmakers met as a community to develop a more creative approach to policy solutions for the needs of vulnerable children, youth and families. The Grantmakers for Children, Youth & Families Policy Summit was an AmericaSpeaks 21st Century Summit sponsored by Grantmakers for Children, Youth & Families (GCYF), a membership association that works to increase the ability of organized philanthropy to improve the well being of children, youth and families.

Participants discussed best practices, brainstormed new ideas, dealt with existing challenges, identified potential partnerships and developed a network of foundations that can support their advocacy work. Grantmakers from every part of the country worked in small groups with trained facilitators to ensure that every person had an opportunity to share their knowledge and opinions. Using polling keypads, participants reviewed and prioritized ideas that emerged throughout the two day meeting.

GCYF committed to focusing their resources and attention to the sustainable action agenda developed by participants during the two day event. Participants also committed to doing their part to support the agenda, and vowed to press their peers to back it as well. More than 95% of participants were satisfied with the event and 100% were very satisfied with the use of technology. Today, GCYF is actively incorporating the lessons, feedback, and action agenda from the 21st Century Summit into its organization.
