NOAA Senior Executive Service Conference

AmericaSpeaks has long believed that Federal agencies could benefit from creative applications of our Stakeholder Summits and 21st Century Town Meetings®.  The key is achieving broad exposure: with over a thousand agencies, we would be much closer to the President’s stated goals of creating a more open, participatory, and collaborative government, and to our goal of having a national town meeting every year with direct involvement from the government and hopefully the White House.

We were pleased to have the opportunity to work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) and facilitate the final day of their annual Senior Executive Summit in Annapolis, MD on September 28th, 2011.  Our full Town Meeting model enabled the approximately 150 participants to reflect on the previous days’ experiences and share lessons learned, and agree on a series of actions to create a more innovation-friendly culture within NOAA.  At the end of the Summit, about 75% of participants said that the AmericaSpeaks model added to the experience and about 80% said they were committed to the outcomes of the summit.

In the long-run, we will continue to build our relationship with NOAA and work to make sure that this is just the first of many such events carried out in collaboration with Federal agencies.
